Monday, January 31, 2005 - MAX BMW Motorcycle ice racing
MAX BMW Motorsports...does it again. We went went ICE RACING, with bikes. The cars were fun, but the bikes are way over the top. I have never had so much fun on a motorcycle in my life. Ryan, Ben, Judd and I spent four hours of non stop riding on a 1.5 mile road course. This track was designed by AMEC, who sponsers car ice racing on Sundays. The location was Caroga Lake, NY and the temperature was about 10 degrees.
We used three F650GS Dakars with knobbie tires filled with ice racing screws. I could not believe the traction. These bikes would accelerate full throttle with no slip, 3rd gear corners and 4th gear straight, speeds topping out at 90mph,cornering speeds ranged from 20-70mph.
This is great training for the summer season of dual sport and track days. We have until the first or second week of March or until the ice gets too thin. If anyone has any intrest in joining us, call me and we can assist. Two tires and screws are around $150 and the risk is what you make of it.
